Madonna surprised fans by performing at Coachella during Sabrina Carpenter’s set on Friday night. The pop superstar joined Carpenter on stage as she sang “Juno,” recreating a moment from her own tour where she would “arrest” a different celebrity.
Amid a backdrop of lights and dancers, the two artists performed a duet of Madonna’s classic 1990 song “Vogue.” They also showcased a new track likely from Madonna’s upcoming album, Confessions II.
Madonna took a moment to thank Carpenter for the invitation, expressing her appreciation for being on stage again after 20 years. She reflected on her first performance at Coachella in a dance tent in 2003. “It’s like a full circle moment,” she stated, wearing the same style boots and corset as two decades ago.
During her appearance, Madonna also shared a brief astrology lesson and urged the audience to come together, highlighting the unifying power of music. She described music as a space where differences can be set aside, allowing everyone to enjoy a good time.
Following her speech, Madonna and Carpenter performed “Like a Prayer,” which thrilled the crowd. This appearance coincided with the announcement of Madonna’s album, Confessions II, set to release on 3 July.
In a statement, Madonna described dance music as more than just entertainment, calling the dance floor a “ritualistic space” where movement takes the place of words. She also released a new single, “I Feel So Free,” through iHeartRadio’s Pride Radio.
Sabrina Carpenter, meanwhile, continued to impress audiences at Coachella, performing new songs from her album Man’s Best Friend. After headlining for both weekends, she fulfilled her promise to return to Coachella as a main act.
