Shift Up’s boss, Hyung-Tae Kim, recently spoke to Korean media about their new game, Stellar Blade: Blood Rain. He announced that a new character named Evie will replace the existing heroine, Eve. Although Eve might still appear in the game, Evie’s design aims to enhance the close-combat experience.
Kim explained that Evie is designed to look shorter and younger to match her tough fighting style, which he describes as cool and stylish. However, this change has caused some controversy in the West, with concerns that Evie looks too young compared to Eve’s design in the first game, which had a more sexualised focus.
Despite this criticism, Kim believes that Evie’s smaller size contrasts well with her strong combat abilities. The team is still working on the character’s design, as the original character, Eve, also underwent several changes before her launch.
Shift Up plans to self-publish the game to reach more platforms. Kim praised Sony’s support but noted that self-publishing allows more flexibility. The first Stellar Blade was popular in markets like China, and the team wants to cater to that audience better.
The game has been in development for only a year, so a release date is still uncertain. Fans have found instances of AI-generated content in the game, which Kim hopes will be removed before the final launch.
