Christopher Nolan’s film, “The Odyssey,” will be released on Friday, following last month’s launch of an AI-generated audiobook narrated by Michael Caine. Now, another adaptation has emerged: “Odysseus: The Fall,” an AI-generated movie that runs for 135 minutes.
This film comes from the studio Fountain 0 and is directed by Ash Koosha, who previously created the AI docu-drama “Dreams of Violets.” He dedicated three months to this project, driven by his childhood admiration for Odysseus. The film will be available to rent or buy from Fountain 0’s website later this summer.
Koosha expressed a lasting obsession with Odysseus, stating that he wanted to share his unique interpretation. Fountain 0 announced the movie alongside Nolan’s work to capture public attention. They view Koosha’s film as a demonstration of AI filmmaking’s potential, which allows creators to respond quickly to significant cultural moments at a lower cost.
Tom Rogers, executive chairman of Fountain 0, explained that AI-generated films can be created rapidly, enabling filmmakers to voice their perspectives on significant literature. The film was produced using the AI video generator Kling, allowing for ongoing modifications during production.
Unlike “Dreams of Violets,” this film had a higher budget and included 12 human likenesses, including Koosha himself as Odysseus. The actors’ images can be catalogued for future projects, with payments linked to the film’s profits.
However, Rogers acknowledged the film’s limitations, stating it may not surpass Nolan’s. The aim is for “Odysseus” to showcase the capabilities of AI in film, appealing to both AI enthusiasts and wider audiences. As the film’s release approaches, Koosha hopes it will help shift perceptions of AI in filmmaking.
