Giant Land Animal Discovered: Heaviest Ever Found

Millions of years ago, Earth had giant creatures. Pterosaurs flew in the sky. They had wings that were 12 metres wide. Huge dragonflies buzzed among the plants. Dinosaurs called sauropods were as long as jumbo jets.

One of the biggest was the dinosaur named Patagotitan mayorum. Patagotitan weighed about 57 tonnes and was 37 metres long. This is the largest complete dinosaur known today.

Patagotitan was found in 2010 in Argentina. A farm worker named Aurelio Hernandez discovered a large bone. This bone belonged to a dinosaur that lived 101 million years ago. Scientists found many bones, which helped them learn more about this species.

Patagotitan was a herbivore, meaning it only ate plants. It needed a lot of food each day. It used its long neck to reach high trees for leaves. Patagotitan lived in groups, helping to reshape its environment.

Even though it was very large, it needed to be careful. It had few natural enemies because of its size. Today, scientists still discover new dinosaur species. Patagotitan is an amazing part of Earth’s history.
