A temporary ban on alcohol sales will take place in the Bahamas next week during the country’s general election, a measure designed to ensure order during voting hours. The restriction will apply from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, affecting both land and sea operations.
The ban aligns with established Bahamian law prohibiting alcohol distribution on election day. This regulation reflects a long-standing commitment to maintaining public order during electoral processes. Royal Caribbean, a major cruise line, informed guests that the prohibition applies nationwide, and no exceptions will be made.
The alcohol ban will impact popular tourist areas, including Nassau and Grand Bahama, as well as private islands operated by cruise lines, such as Royal Caribbean’s CocoCay. Despite the restrictions onshore, guests aboard cruise ships will still have the opportunity to purchase and consume alcohol.
Three Royal Caribbean ships—Wonder of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, and Utopia of the Seas—are scheduled to dock in the Bahamas on election day. While passengers will not face restrictions onboard, the cruise line has expressed full compliance with local laws. The spokesperson reiterated their commitment to respecting regulations in all destinations where they operate.
For guests with bookings at Royal Beach Club Paradise Island on May 12, the cruise line will issue a 50% refund in onboard credit. Passengers can also explore alternative activities through the ship’s shore excursions desk or the Royal Caribbean website.
Events are evolving, as some cruise lines consider itinerary adjustments to bypass affected areas during the alcohol ban. Other companies like Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival Cruise Line also manage private island destinations in the Bahamas, highlighting the widespread impact of this election-related measure.
