Darrell Sheets, a prominent figure on the A&E reality show Storage Wars, passed away early this morning at his home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He was 67 years old.
Local police reported that Sheets died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Officers were called to his residence at around 2 a.m., where they found him deceased. The department’s Criminal Investigations Unit has taken over the investigation, which is currently ongoing.
Sheets’ body has been sent to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s office for further examination.
Born on May 13, 1958, in California, Sheets participated in 163 episodes of Storage Wars from 2010 to 2023. The show features buyers competing for abandoned storage lockers, with the winner determined by the value of the contents inside.
After suffering a heart attack in 2019, Sheets stepped back from the storage auction scene, making only rare appearances on the show. He had moved to Arizona where he operated an antiques store.
According to his biography on the series’ website, Sheets was "addicted to the ‘high’ of storage auctions for 32 years." It noted that, unlike others who turned storage buying into stable businesses, he sought significant, high-value finds. He often boasted about rare items, including four Picassos and a valuable comic book collection.
