Porsche Taycan Sets New EV Record at Nürburgring

The Nürburgring track in Germany is known for challenging high-performance cars. Recently, Porsche announced that its Taycan Turbo GT has regained the title for the fastest electric vehicle (EV) on this circuit. The Taycan Turbo GT, with an optional Weissach package, completed the 20.832km Nordschleife track in seven minutes and 7.55 seconds.

Soon after, this record was surpassed by the Rimac Nevera, then the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, and finally the Yangwang U9 Xtreme, which set a time of six minutes and 59.16 seconds. However, Porsche, with help from its racing partner Manthey Racing, improved the Taycan Turbo GT. It achieved a new time of six minutes and 55.53 seconds, reclaiming its title.

The Manthey upgrades included new vehicle software, lightweight wheels, and better aerodynamic features. These changes improved the car’s downforce significantly, making it faster. The power output was also boosted. In normal driving mode, the Taycan Turbo GT now produces 600kW of power, while using its special Attack Mode can increase it to 730kW.

To handle these changes, the front brakes were enlarged. Overall, the Manthey kit helped the Taycan Turbo GT cut around 12 seconds from its previous time. Despite this achievement, it is still slower than the 911 GT3, which set a time of six minutes and 52.981 seconds last month, even though it has less power.
