Disney has officially removed an unnamed “Star Wars” film that was slated for release on December 18, 2026, from its production calendar. In its stead, “Ice Age 6” will occupy the newly vacated slot.
Although the specifics of this project were never fully disclosed, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy had been appointed as the director of a forthcoming “Star Wars” film centered on Rey, portrayed by Daisy Ridley, in the aftermath of 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” Earlier this year, the film experienced a setback with the departure of its screenwriter, Steven Knight, following the exits of Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy indicated during last year’s Star Wars Celebration that Ridley’s forthcoming narrative would chronicle Rey’s endeavors in establishing a new Jedi Order.
This scenario is not unprecedented within the storied “Star Wars” franchise, as several ambitious projects, including those helmed by director Patty Jenkins, Marvel producer Kevin Feige, “The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson, and the duo of David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, have been announced over the years but ultimately did not come to fruition.
The next installment in the “Star Wars” cinematic universe, titled “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” under the direction of Jon Favreau, is anticipated to premiere in May 2026, while an additional untitled film remains scheduled for December 17, 2027.

In a parallel development within the expansive “Star Wars” universe, Lucasfilm disclosed last week that Simon Kinberg, known for his work on “X-Men,” will write and produce a new trilogy in collaboration with Kathleen Kennedy.
Additionally, Disney and 20th Century Animation announced the production of “Ice Age 6,” with original series stalwarts Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary, and Simon Pegg returning to reprise their iconic roles.
