U.S. stock futures increased on Monday as investors waited for the July jobs report and a busy week of company earnings. Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 306 points, which is 0.58%. The S&P 500 futures went up by 0.42%, and Nasdaq-100 futures climbed by 0.33%.
Oil prices fell after President Donald Trump announced he cancelled a planned attack on Iran. This news came after reports suggested an increase in strikes, leading to rising energy prices. West Texas Intermediate futures for September dropped by 5.6% to $80.01 per barrel, while Brent crude futures fell by 4.5% to $83.98.
In Europe, stock markets moved higher. The Stoxx 600 index increased by 0.3%. The German DAX rose by 1.3%, and the French CAC 40 added almost 1.1%. However, the UK’s FTSE 100 decreased by nearly 0.1%.
In Asia-Pacific, markets had mixed results. South Korea’s Kospi dropped over 5%, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell by 0.94%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.47% higher, but mainland China’s CSI 300 fell by 0.98%. The three major U.S. stock indexes finished higher on Friday, with increases in the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite.
