FX has announced the release date for the final season of The Bear, which will premiere on June 25 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on FX and Hulu, as well as on Disney+ internationally. All eight episodes will be accessible to stream from the start.
This news follows the unexpected release of a prequel episode titled “Gary” on Hulu. This episode serves as a flashback featuring cousins Richie and Mikey during a work trip to Gary, Indiana. Both actors also co-wrote the episode, with series creator Christopher Storer directing.
The prequel explores the complex relationship between Richie and Mikey, revealing new aspects of Mikey’s mental health. It also provides important background on Richie, enhancing viewers’ understanding of his character from the first season.
In addition to streaming, Season 5 will be available on FX’s traditional channel. The season will debut with the first two episodes, subsequently airing one new episode each week.
As the final season begins shortly after the events of Season 4, it follows Sydney, Richie, and Natalie "Sugar" as they face challenges after Carmy quits the restaurant business. Facing financial difficulties and a storm, the trio must work with their team to deliver one final service, aiming for a Michelin star. They come to understand that the key to a successful restaurant lies not just in the food but in the people involved.
The Bear has won 21 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series for its first season. The cast includes Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Matty Matheson, alongside recurring roles from Ricky Staffieri, Oliver Platt, Will Poulter, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Christopher Storer created the series and serves as an executive producer, along with several others. The show is produced by FX Productions.
