Recently, software problems were found in many LG smart TVs. This could allow bad people to control them. To protect your TV, update it now.
Security company Bitdefender found four software bugs in LG’s WebOS TV system. These bugs are dangerous because a hacker could use them to take total control of the TV. This affects about 91,000 devices globally. Bitdefender first told LG about these bugs in November.
In situations like this, your TV may not be the only thing at risk. Hackers may get into your linked accounts. This means they could access your email and bank details. They could also use your device for their own activities like crypto-mining.
Most of the affected devices are in South Korea, Hong Kong, and Sweden. But around 7,000 devices are affected in the US too.
To keep your TV safe, update it to the latest software version. LG fixed these bugs on March 22. If you’re unsure how to update the software, see LG’s website for instructions. Then click on Settings > Support > Software Update, and choose “Download and Install.” Then enjoy safe streaming.
