Sturgill Simpson will launch a North American tour under the alias Johnny Blue Skies, supported by his band, the Dark Clouds. The tour, promoting his latest album Mutiny After Midnight, will commence in Austin, Texas, in early September and conclude in Lexington, Kentucky, on Halloween. The tour will not feature opening acts.
Currently, Mutiny After Midnight holds the impressive position of No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, achieved solely through physical sales. As part of the promotional efforts, Johnny Blue Skies and the Dark Clouds plan to release two cover songs on 7-inch vinyl for Record Store Day, scheduled for April 18. They will reinterpret Procol Harum’s classic “A Whiter Shade of Pale” and William Bell’s soulful “You Don’t Miss Your Water.”
The artist Sturgill Simpson will also star in an upcoming film titled The Lonely Woman, a project from the electronic music duo Boy Harsher. This film is currently in post-production and features collaborations with other musician-actors, including FKA twigs and Bonnie “Prince” Billy.
The comprehensive list of concert dates includes performances across numerous cities, starting with Austin and traversing venues in New Mexico, California, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, Indiana, and beyond, concluding in Kentucky. This extensive itinerary indicates a significant commitment to live performance and engagement with fans.
Next steps for fans include anticipated releases and the opportunity to purchase tickets for the tour, as Sturgill Simpson continues to build anticipation for both his music and film appearances.
