The death of Ashly Robinson, a South Jersey woman, has captured international attention as her family seeks answers regarding the circumstances surrounding her demise in Zanzibar, Tanzania. This case has raised questions about safety and transparency for those travelling abroad.
Robinson’s parents, speaking from Delaware, report a lack of clear communication from Tanzanian officials and her fiancé about the incident. Her mother, Yolanda Denise Endres, expressed profound sorrow and confusion, stating, “We’re trying to find out why.” Her father, Harry Robinson, echoed these sentiments, describing feelings of uncertainty and anger.
The family revealed that Robinson, an influencer known as Ashlee Jenae, was celebrating her 31st birthday in Zanzibar on April 5. She was accompanied by her boyfriend, who had proposed two days prior. Her mother recalled a joyful FaceTime call during which Robinson shared her travel experiences.
Tragically, less than a week later, Robinson was dead. On April 8, she informed her family that she and her fiancé had experienced an argument and were placed in separate rooms. The following day, her fiancé called Endres, claiming that Robinson had harmed herself and was being taken to the hospital. However, he indicated that this incident had occurred 11 hours earlier, increasing the family’s distress when they received notification from the hotel of her death shortly thereafter.
A medical report indicated that Robinson had a mark on her neck, with suggestions that she had hanged herself. Despite this, her family contends there was no indication she would harm herself. They have contacted the police, consulate, and embassy, seeking additional details as they continue to investigate the circumstances of her passing. The family is considering travelling to Zanzibar to pursue further inquiries, having already requested surveillance footage from the resort.
