American Airlines reveals Terminal C expansion at DFW Airport

American Airlines and DFW International Airport opened an extension of Terminal C on Monday, improving the airline’s operations at its main hub. This 115,000-square-foot addition includes five rebuilt gates and four new ones. Two of these gates, C33 and C34, have been in use for the last couple of months, allowing staff to adapt to the new environment.

Jim Moses, American’s senior vice president at DFW, mentioned that the new technology in the terminal required staff to learn new processes. The remaining gates in the expansion will soon be added to flight operations.

The pier extension features sustainable windows that adjust with the sunlight and various seating options, including sofa-like areas with power outlets. Updated lighting will indicate boarding and seating areas, and electronic boarding gates, previously tested in Terminal A, will also be included.

Moses noted that this new pier offers a glimpse into the future of Terminal C. It will allow the airport to close older gates for renovation. American Airlines operates more than 80% of flights at DFW, with nearly 200 daily departures from Terminal C.

The extension used modular construction, meaning parts were built off-site and moved to the airport. This method allowed for an earlier completion, generating income sooner. This is the first phase of a wider $12 billion project called DFW Forward, which will enhance Terminal A and introduce a new Terminal F, adding or refurbishing 68 gates in total.
