Vincent Pastore, famed for his role in the television series “The Sopranos,” has died at the age of 80, confirmed his manager to CBS News. Robert Attermann, who represented Pastore for over 30 years, described him as unforgettable, noting his character, “Big Pussy,” but also highlighting his greater personal qualities.
Authorities reported that Pastore was found dead in his Bronx home on Saturday afternoon, and there appeared to be no signs of foul play. His portrayal of Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero spanned all six seasons of “The Sopranos,” which aired from 1999 to 2007. Although his character was killed off in the second season after being revealed as an FBI informant, Pastore made several guest appearances in later episodes.
Born in the Bronx on July 14, 1946, Pastore served in the Vietnam War before earning a drama degree from Pace University. His early acting career included roles in films like “Goodfellas,” “Carlito’s Way,” and “Men of Respect,” as well as later projects such as “The Jerky Boys: The Movie” and “Gotti.”
Pastore’s television credits featured popular shows such as “Law & Order,” “Blue Bloods,” and most recently in 2022, he had a regular role in “Gravesend.” He won a Screen Actors Guild Award with his “Sopranos” co-stars in 2000 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble. His manager expressed deep personal loss, recalling Pastore’s passion for acting and his supportive nature towards younger actors.
