China’s Factory Activity Surges on Strong Tech Exports

China’s manufacturing activity grew quickly in June. This happened because of more demand for technology linked to artificial intelligence. However, real estate and consumer goods production still faced problems.

The official index for purchasing managers rose slightly to 50.3 in June. This is higher than 50.0 in May. A number above 50 shows growth. This is better than what experts expected.

Demand for AI technology helped the growth. Even with issues in the Middle East, China’s manufacturing stayed strong. Both supply and demand improved in June. The production and new orders sub-indexes rose to 51.4 and 51.2.

High-tech manufacturing did even better. Its index reached 53.5, thanks to strong production. But consumer goods production was slower at 50.2. Outside and AI-related demands helped China’s economy.

The non-manufacturing index increased to 50.2, showing some recovery. Construction activity, however, continued to decline. Retail sales also fell in May for the first time in three years.
