Netflix’s Spanish film, Emilia Pérez, is very special. It is one of the few non-English films that have made it into the top 10 films list. The American Film Institute releases this list every year.
According to the rules of the American Film Institute, a film can be in any language. It just needs to have a strong American connection. In the case of Emilia Pérez, this connection could come through the involvement of American actresses Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez.
In the past, other partly non-English films have also made to the list. Along with Emilia Pérez, films like Wicked, Conclave, and The Brutalist are also in the top 10 list this year.
Like films, there is a top 10 list for TV programs as well. Some popular shows in this list include Sh?gun, The Bear, and Hacks.
A special award is going to the British show Baby Reindeer, which is on Netflix.
The American Film Institute will celebrate all these film and TV shows at an award lunch. This lunch will happen on January 10, 2025, at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.
