Shoppers looking for affordable groceries should consider Kroger. This Ohio-based store has the lowest prices for a basket of essential items among major U.S. grocery chains. A new study from Restaurant Furniture Plus compared costs for 15 common items at Kroger, Walmart, Aldi, and Albertsons, including milk, bread, and eggs. The study found that Kroger’s total cost for these items was $30.
Kroger offered the best prices on 10 of the 15 items, more than any other store. These items included pantry staples like spaghetti, canned tomatoes, and sugar, as well as a dozen large eggs. Walmart ranked second, with a total basket cost of $30.95, followed by Aldi at $33.15 and Albertsons at $35.58.
However, Aldi’s dairy products showed strong value, according to the report. The study did not include stores like Costco and Trader Joe’s, as they either lacked certain items or had bulk pricing that complicated comparisons.
These findings come as many Americans face rising grocery costs. Over the past five years, food prices have increased by 32%. This has led many individuals to rely on credit cards to pay for food, creating significant financial pressure. The report highlights that grocery costs remain a major concern for many families.
