Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has successfully completed the U.K.’s National Three Peaks Challenge. She climbed the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales in under 24 hours to raise money and awareness for a cancer charity.
The 44-year-old royal, often referred to as Kate, was diagnosed with cancer in March 2024. In early 2025, she announced that she was in remission after finishing her chemotherapy treatment.
In a recent social media post, Kensington Palace stated that the Princess took on this challenge not only for the physical effort but also to “explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back.”
The National Three Peaks Challenge includes climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Mount Snowdon in Wales. This totals 23 miles of hiking and 10,052 feet of elevation gain, along with a 462-mile drive between the peaks.
Kate undertook this challenge in support of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which is linked to the hospital where she received treatment. She expressed her aim of raising awareness about the importance of holistic healthcare—approaches that consider physical, emotional, and social well-being alongside traditional medical treatments.
Although Kate completed the challenge alone, she received assistance from Britain’s Mountain Rescue charity along the way. At the end, she was welcomed by her husband, Prince William, and their children.
She reflected on her cancer journey, reminding people that many receive a difficult diagnosis each year, which affects every aspect of their lives. After focusing on her treatment, Kate has resumed public engagements, including her first overseas trip to Italy in May 2026.
