Next-Gen Moon Rovers Set for Artemis 4 Deployment

NASA wants to create a big Moon Base near the Moon’s south pole. This needs special vehicles to move astronauts around. Two companies, Astrolab and Lunar Outpost, are working on this for NASA. They must finish by the end of 2027.

Last month, NASA chose these two companies to make lunar terrain vehicles. These vehicles must be ready for the first crewed landing in early 2028. NASA wants a simpler design that does not need to last for ten years on the Moon.

Astrolab is working on a vehicle called the Crewed Lunar Vehicle (CLV-1). Lunar Outpost is creating the Pegasus rover. Both companies learned from their past projects to improve their new designs.

Each company faces challenges, like keeping their vehicles warm during the cold lunar nights. They use batteries to store energy and keep the equipment warm.

NASA will also manage the launches to the Moon by using Blue Origin’s rockets. This will help ensure everything arrives safely on time.
