Sonos is set to launch a substantial update to its mobile app for Android and iOS on May 7th, sources say. The update will include a variety of user-friendly features aimed at enhancing the experience of its users.
The refreshed app will serve as an upgrade to the Sonos S2 application, which was released back in 2020. It will streamline navigation by consolidating all features on to a central homescreen and doing away with the bottom tabs. Additionally, features such as a search bar for swift music discovery, directly accessible shuffle and repeat buttons, and an ever-present volume slider will be added.
The updates don’t stop at function; form is also being addressed. The homescreen will be more customizable, allowing users to rearrange and directly add their favorite playlists. Settings for speakers and soundbars will be accessible through a “Your System” tab. Even the app’s icon is getting a fresh look with a switch from a tan background to a sleek black, highlighting the company’s logo.
Despite receiving criticism from some customers, the Sonos app has still managed to achieve a decent overall rating on both the App Store and Google Play. Given these updates, the ratings might get a boost.
The revamp is set to act as a precursor for Sonos’s very first wireless headphones. They are projected to be priced at $449 and will offer competition to high-end brands such as Apple and Sony.
