Title: “Rare Fungus Infection in Cats and Vet Worry Health Experts”

Health experts have found a rare fungal condition in two pet cats and their vet. The U.S. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the issue occurred between late 2022 and early 2023.

The fungus that caused the problem is called Sporothrix schenckii. This type of infection is generally caught through contact with plants with sharp points like rose thorns. This is why it’s sometimes called “rose gardener’s disease.” If cats get this infection, it can easily be passed on to other cats, dogs, and even people if not treated immediately.

Experts say the illness tends to form sores that heal slowly. However, it is not caught from person to person. The CDC is paying special attention to its spread. One case happened when a cat’s paw wound did not heal. It gave the infection to the vet who treated it. Later, another cat from the same house also fell sick.

The good news is, the fungal infection can be cured. But, it’s crucial for it to be diagnosed early. Experts are warning pet owners to be cautious. If your outdoor cat has a wound that isn’t healing, check with your vet to see if it could be this fungal infection.
