Genshin Impact is a very popular game. It adds new places and characters all the time. But now, it has a problem with the FTC. The FTC is a group that protects customers. They say Genshin Impact makes money in a bad way.
HoYoverse must pay a fine of $20 million. They did some things that are not okay:
They marketed the game to children.
They did not tell kids the real costs of in-game purchases.
They used tricks to confuse players about spending money.
Now, they have to make changes:
Kids under 16 need parents’ permission to spend money.
Personal information of kids under 13 will be deleted.
Loot boxes must show real money prices.
They must clearly show odds for winning prizes.
These changes are only for the US. Genshin Impact still makes a lot of money, so the fine is not very big for them.
