In a recent interview, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, confirmed that the highly anticipated video game GTA 6 is expected to release in November 2026. He indicated that November 2024 may have originally been the target date, but Rockstar Games is focusing on avoiding a rushed development process, which has led to multiple postponements.
A Best Buy affiliate email leak suggested that pre-orders for GTA 6 might begin on May 18th. While the validity of this message remains uncertain, it appears that further delays are unlikely. Zelnick reiterated the November date during a podcast with David Senra, although his assurance does not alleviate fans’ concerns, particularly given prior delays.
Despite the CEO’s confidence, some fans remain sceptical, noting that Zelnick had previously made similar assertions before subsequent delays. He hinted that the project may be further behind schedule than many fans realise, stating, “I think we’re about 18 months behind the original date.” It remains unclear whether he referred to the November 2026 launch or the time of the interview.
Rockstar announced the game’s development in February 2022, with concepts reportedly established as early as 2014. The first trailer released in December 2023 initially suggested a 2025 launch, which was later narrowed to the fall and then delayed twice.
The company has adopted a more lenient approach to development following criticisms related to extreme work conditions during the making of Red Dead Redemption 2. The publisher has vowed to improve working conditions for its employees and has reiterated its commitment to avoiding unhealthy work pressure.
Amid rising impatience among fans, many anticipate the potential for GTA 6 pre-orders to start on May 18th, possibly alongside the release of a third trailer. Further updates are expected from Zelnick during Take-Two’s earnings call on May 21st.
