Amtrak train service between Boston and New York stopped because of a power outage caused by lightning on Saturday. This outage led to many cancellations along the northeast corridor for most of the day. Amtrak restored service late Saturday night and apologized for the inconvenience. Two trains were running on schedule, while some others were cancelled or had changed schedules. Amtrak said most trains will run normally on Sunday. Passengers affected by the disruptions can change their reservations without extra charges. The Fourth of July holiday saw a 9 percent increase in travelers compared to 2023, almost reaching pre-pandemic levels.
