Effective Leave Management: 3 Essential Strategies

Share

This article gives tips for entrepreneurs on how to help their teams while taking care of their health and family.

Many young business owners work very hard. I did too when I started my company, Hello Alice. I drank lots of coffee and ran a lot. It can be hard to think about letting others help with your business. Recently, I had health problems and had to take my first break. This taught me a lot about trust and letting my team take charge.

Planning for a time when you might need to leave is important. You might need to step back for your health or to help a family member. Early in my company, my co-founder had to care for her father. We made sure we knew everything about the business so that she could take care of him.

Real estate expert Gary Keller said work is like a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But family, health, friends, and integrity are like glass. If you drop them, they may break.

Here are three simple tips for taking care of your business while you also take care of yourself:

1. Plan Ahead

Keep important business plans where others can find them.

2. Clarify Roles

Make sure everyone knows their job and who is in charge when you are away.

3. Stay Away

Try not to check in too much. Trust your team to do their jobs.

Take care of yourself and your business will be okay.
